In a rather Frontier, well used cond: all the metal is a grayish coloration with light to moderate pitting along the wood line. The front wood on the this gun is in quite good cond with no visible cracks. Done by Del Zanatta better known as 'Rose from St. Louis'; a really talented engraver. This gun is elaborately done with several deep relief panel scenes on each side of the gun featuring a barber half dollar on one side; a grizzly bear and an Indian chief deeply relief engraved on the other side. Sharp corners, exc markings, mechanical cond is exc, orig sights include a folding tang rear. Deluxe fancy burl wood is in great cond with a rifle style buttplate. Orig 24" full oct bbl, full mag. The gun was engraved, gold gilted and nickel plated at the time of manufacture but I believe it has suffered from some bad storage which has greatly enhanced the eye appeal of the gun. That finish now has toned somewhat and has some plumming and browning to it showing some age and highlighting the engraving. This is a great looking gun!

Orig 24" full octagon bbl, full length magazine, deluxe checkered rifle butt, pistol grip and case hardened. Inscribed on the left side plate is: 'Presented to H.C. Cassidy by the Gun Dept of Hibbard, Spencer and Bartlett & Co. April 1884'. All of these facts are stated in a Factory Letter dated April 19, 1884, also confirms that the factory did the inscription on the side plate. It's interesting to note that Hibbard, Spencer and Bartlett went on to become the True Value Hardware Co. Accompanying this gun is a Bowie Knife marked 'H.C. Cassidy' as well which apparently was presented to him at the same time. Overall gun is in exc cond with orig front, typical Buckhorn rear and Lyman folding tang rear sights. Bbl retains 60-70% orig blue starting to tone somewhat with sharp corners and exc markings. Receiver retains 40-50% case colors, wood is in exc cond with most orig varnish, sharp checkering, just a few light handling mars and dings; complete with rifle style buttplate. Very nice little gun.
