(EL-1143) FANTASTIC PAIR OF FACTORY ENGRAVED AND INSCRIBED COLT SINGLE ACTIONS
Both guns have 4-3/4" bbls, 45 Caliber. These guns were very interestingly sent in two different shipments; one serial number is 346,604 and the other it 347,042. They went out at 2 different times but both were shipped to a man named Alfonse Malin. Only one of these has the factory stamp indicating its factory refinish, however, both of the guns have been observed with assembly numbers on the left side of the back strap under the grips leading creedence to the idea that these were both factory refinished, not just one. Apparently it was an oversite that one did not get stamped. Both are fitted with mother of pearl grips with the silver Colt inlay and are in fantastic cond with nearly all the orig bright nickel finish remaining, just very light holster wear on both. Mr. Malin apparently sent them back to the factory and had his name engraved on both backstaps as well as having the mother of pearl grips done at that time. Very exceptional pair of guns-hard to improve upon.

Single action revolver with the lightweight dural frame. Gun is beautifully and elaborately engraved by master engraver Lynton McKenzie who was probably one of the finest engravers of the 20th Century. Fleur d'lis style carved ebony grips with Colt medallion, gold bbl bands on the end of the bbl and the cylinder. Very beautifully done, complete with McKenzie's well known initials underneath the grip. Gun retains virtually all the refinish that was applied at the time of engraving. Both guns have a 4-3/4" bbl, one is .38 Caliber, the other is .32 Caliber. Very nicely and recently engraved (30-40 years ago); were gold gilted at that time and both guns retain nearly all of the gold gilt. Orig hardrubber Colt grips are in VG cond, both have Factory Letters as to their original originality as well as a letter stating that the guns originally were owned by Captain Grimm of the U. S. (C1030-12-606) CASED SET OF SIX FACTORY ENGRAVED COLT SINGLE ACTIONS
Very interesting set of guns: they were ordered in 1978 according to the provenance. It took 41/2 years before Colt finally delivered the guns. They're cased together in a French style recessed case and are all engraved in factory style 'D'. Various calibers; four of them are 7-1/2" bbls, 1 is 5-1/2" and 1 is 4-3/4". All guns are blued and case hardened with the exception of one of the 7-1/2's which has full nickel finish and a non-fluted cylinder in 45 Colt. All guns have ivory grips with the custom shop logo inlaid in the grip. Absolutely new cond; complete with orig factory boxes which are in new, unused cond as is the display case. Six Factory Letters documenting the details of each gun included. Very unusual set. Even more unusual is the request that Colt had as to what they would and wouldn't do on the guns. This revolver was a U.S. Artillery with 10,XXX frame serial number. The barrel and cylinder have been relined to .22 Caliber RF. We believe this work was done by Enewold as the barrel is stamped R.F. Enewold. The engraving bears all the hallmarks of Wilbur Glahn (including his trademark triangle motif on the recoil shield), intertwined arabesque foliate scrollwork is full coverage. Very fine punch dot background, virtually all of an old silver plate finish is intact and is turning a pleasing patina, name on backstrap is ‘Fay A. Brown’. This is the lowest numbered Colt with this feature I’ve ever encountered. Overall revolver is in extraordinary condition retaining 30%+ shiny bbl, triggerguard and backstrap blue, 75% shiny housing blue, the balance turned a dark blue plum coloration, cylinder is an even dark blue plum as well, excellent traces of case colors are visible on the hammer and backstrap-balance darkened. 7-1/2” barrel, excellent bore and excellent overall. 97% original bright shiny barrel blue, 90%+ shiny housing blue, the balance starting to turn, almost all blue present in cylinder flutes, the balance of the cylinder is a plum blue patina coloration, vivid case colors are visible on most of the frame and hammer; 90% blue on triggerguard and backstrap. Serial number 133,512 on all parts except the backstrap which is 115,916-this number is listed in ‘A Continuing Study’ on page 79. The butt of this backstrap also bears the large marking ‘C138’. VG solid one piece walnut grips have been sanded but the number ‘47’ is visible near the frame on left side (note the ‘47’ number in ‘A Continuing Study’, page 134).
