VG+ bore, orig wood has the usual mars and dings but no splits or cracks; quite solid. In better than average cond with orig iron patchbox, sling ring, orig sights. Overall metal is a plum brownish coloration with traces of blue in the protected areas and traces of case color on the receiver. Nice, clean, sharp little gun.

Built by Shiloh Sharps out of Big Timber, MT. 54 Black Powder Caliber. As stated, this is a front bbl assembly only including musket wood with 3 bands, 1-1/4" sling swivel, iron block front sight, no rear sight but there is a dovetail for one. Bbl length is 30", everything is in exc cond, appears to be unfired or fired very little; all the blue remains. The musket wood is in exc cond. A nice piece. e

(MR434-12-473) SHARPS MODEL 1878 MILITARY RIFLE
The 32" bbl is chambered in 45-70 and is mostly a blue brown patina with quite a bit of blue remaining. Front sight is a modifled blade, standard military rear, markings on the bbl are 'Old Reliable' and 'Sharps Rifle Co.'; receiver is marked 'Sharps Rifle Co. Bridgeport, CT'. This gun is in the 19,XXX serial range. Overall cond of wood is VG; there was a chip in the wrist area that has been repaired, no loss of wood and is solid. No ramrod with gun but complete with orig checkered metal buttplate. Receiver retains most bluing on the left side and is more of a brownish on the right side-it probably hung on display somewhere for years and years. Bore is fair to good with some roughness towards the chamber area. These hammerless Sharps are kind of the odd duck of the Sharps line; very unique and scarce. e

(MR432-12-470) SHARPS MODEL 1877 SPORTING RIFLE
One of seventy flve Model 77 Sharps manufactured. Orig 28" full oct bbl, single trigger, open sights, very near exc bore. Stocks are in generally VG cond with checkered forearm and shotgun style buttplate. Top of the bbl is marked 'J.P. Lower; Denver, CO'. All 75 of these were shipped to Lower and most generally they were found in really horrible condition: all of them saw frontier use; they were relatively inexpensive at the time and they were used pretty hard. This is one of the better examples that have surfaced. Retains about 75% toning blue on the bbl, receiver has turned mostly a gray coloration, 'Bridgeport, CT Old Reliable' bbl address. Guaranteed all orig and complete with a letter from Dr. Richard Labowskie (a Sharps historian) which states that this particular gun, Serial #D39, has not been found in the Factory Letters but he states that it is one of the group that went to Colorado. Orig full oct 30" bbl, Beaches front and orig factory rear sights, bore is in VG+ cond-bright and shiny with sharp rifling. Orig wood stocks have a few minor bruises and mars but generally near exc with most orig varnish remaining, double set triggers, shotgun style buttplate as well as the 'Bridgeport, CT Old Reliable' bbl markings. Gun is guaranteed all orig with 75-80% toning bbl blue, receiver retains 20-25% case colors turning somewhat dark in areas. Very scarce little gun; factory records indicate there were only approximately 200 of these guns that were ever engraved and this one is complete with a Factory Letter verifying the half engraving at a cost of $35 (only a half dozen of these had that type of special engraving) and specifying the 60 Caliber bore. The gun is beautifully done with fairly elaborate coverage and has a 26” heavy weight octagon bbl, steel patchbox. Orig wood is in VG cond with traces of orig varnish, overall metal is smooth, clean and has turned mostly a plum brownish coloration with sharp markings, sharp corners. Factory Letter states it was sent to San Francisco Sharps dealer A.J. Plate in 1878 as a .40-70 Caliber, hunters rifle with a double set trigger. The barrel is marked ‘H. Slotterbek Los Angeles CAL’ with an arrow which is a Stotterbek trademark. Barrel is also marked ‘Silver Steel’ and ‘Gain Twist Wart’. 28”, .40 Caliber. A fancy transition is present between the octagon barrel and the frame, Globe front sight and Winchester 1873 ladder rear, double set triggers. VG+ overall with metal turned a plum brown gray coloration, forearm missing a ¼” x 4” piece on both sides near the front, VG buttstock, varnish added. Complete with sling rings and Factory Letter. e

Appears to be a Navy model with a 24” barrel which was originally covered with leather which has since been removed. Overall metal is in generally good condition with some very minor pitting; nice functioning action, original sights. Original wood is in VG condition with a brass style buttplate; correct stock sling swivel. The gun appears to have been converted to a Navy line throwing gun-it’s 16 gauge and has a fixture on the front for a line throwing canister-very unusual.
